5 Ways to Kick Start Your Motivation

Do have a project that you desperately want to get underway but you feel so overwhelmed that you don’t know where to start?

Maybe you sit down at the computer to start your project but find yourself still looking at Facebook two hours later?

In this video, I’m going to show you five ways you can kick start your motivation and send procrastination to the curb.

So, you’re excited and you have your end result in sights but something just has you frozen in your tracks and you just can’t seem to move forward. You seem to find a million and one other things to do rather than the task at hand.

What is that? You know it’s unreasonable but you feel like you’re stuck in a frozen moment.

So, what is the number one thing that stands in the way of getting things done? Fear.

It can be the fear of success. It could be the fear of failure. It could be a fear of any kind, and if it stops you from shining and moving forward, it needs to be dealt with.

Successful people have failed more times than you could imagine, but they don’t see it as a failure. They see it as a step forward in the right direction.

Now the fear of success may seem like a really silly concept, but it’s very real for a lot of people. It could be that you feel like you’re going to be overwhelmed if you become successful or you may have to fly by the seat of your pants. It could also be the fear of the unknown.

I like to think of fear as False Experiences Appearing Real – that is whatever you’re worried about hasn’t even happened, so don’t worry because it will only serve to hold you back.

So, what are some of the things to watch out for that crop up as a result of fear?

#1 Perfectionism – If every successful entrepreneur had waited until their idea was perfect, there would be no successful entrepreneurs. I believe there’s still a place for standards but don’t wait until everything’s perfect. Just get out there and do it.

#2 – That you feel like you’re not good enough or that you don’t know enough – Life and personal development are both a continual learning curve. You already have enough life experience under your belt to start, so get out there and share what you already know and keep learning along the way. Learn something new everyday and share it as you go along.

One of the best things I did when I first started working in the fitness industry was saying yes to writing a weekly column in our local paper. Because I was only new to the industry, I wasn’t sure if I knew enough to be writing an article every week. But as I continued to write each week, I actually learned that I knew more than I was giving myself credit for. So, don’t wait until you feel you’re ready. Get out there with the knowledge you already have and get started.

#3 – You don’t have a defined goal – It’s really important to be really clear on what you want. So, if you’re not 100% clear, ask yourself lots of questions and be truly honest with yourself with the answers. And know that it’s ok to want what you want.

To overcome fear and procrastination, you need to have a plan and take action, so here are five steps that you can take to set the wheels in motion –

Step #1 – Take a few moments the night before and plan out your day – having a plan gives you an idea of what you need to do and will help to alleviate those feelings of being overwhelmed.

Step #2 – De-clutter your life – Clutter is like a backpack that you carry around all day, every day. It blocks your energy flow. So, if you have a lot of things to clear, start small rather than become overwhelmed, have a plan, start small and clear that space before moving onto the next one.

And don’t forget about your electronic clutter, your desk clutter, your cupboard space, your living space, even your car and your mind clutter.

Take steps to clear that clutter every day.

Step #3 – You are the equivalent of the five people you spend the most time with – So, take a look around at the people around you. Is there anyone there who’s draining your energy or is somebody holding you back? Take a really good look and see if you need to do some decluttering.

Step #4 – Learn something new every day – There’s a lot to learn out there and it doesn’t matter how old you area, there is always something new to learn and the more you learn, the more confident you will become.

Step #5 – Make your health and fitness a priority – All successful people make their health a priority because without it, they couldn’t run their businesses successfully.

It’s also important to note that fear can keep you unwell because there’s a safety zone around that. So, it’s really important to associate the pleasure of achieving your final goal and your ambition in life to your health and making your health a priority.

I know that can be a hard cookie to crunch when you are feeling unwell but it was through changing my mindset that I turned my life around. So, I know that if I can do it, you can, too.

The magic words here are ‘Take Action’. You don’t need to know the entire journey. All you need is that first step. So, have a think about what your first step will be and take it.

Chances are, taking that first step is pushing your boundaries and taking you out of your comfort zone, but that’s ok because that’s how we grow and move forward.

If we stay in our comfort zone, nothing changes.

So, instead, take back your personal power and you make the decision whether you do something or not. Don’t let fear decide it for you.
