Holding On Is Holding You Back

If there’s one thing I’ve learned on this personal development journey is that you never stop learning…

There’s always a new lesson to learn or a new way of looking at things.

My big lesson at the moment is allowing myself to receive…

It showed up for me a few weeks ago when I was clothes shopping…

Seriously, I need to find an awesome stylist who can do that for me…I can’t stand clothes shopping and the one thing I can’t stand any more than that is an overzealous shop assistant…

I’m not talking about the assistants who say hello and offer their services if I need help before letting me be…I like them…

No, it’s the ‘in-your-face-I-need-to-follow-you-around-the-store-and-ask-you-questions-the-entire-time’ shop assistants…
They drive me insane!

Anyway, this one day I was faced with an overzealous shop assistant and while I was taking slow, deep breaths to calm myself down she said….

‘I don’t know why but I just feel I need to help you!’

The shock! The horror! How dare she feels like she NEEDS to help me!

That triggered something within me and while it never feels like it at the time, it’s always a good thing…

I knew it was a sign….if something triggers you or grabs your attention in some way, it’s a sign and you bloody well had better sit up and take notice!

It made me ask myself why it had triggered me…and then I realised…

I don’t let anyone help me…

I am so independent that I will ask for help if I need it, but if someone offers to help me, I always say no.

Why is that?

Because I’ve always found it easier to do things myself. By the time I’ve shown someone how to do something I’d have it done or I’ve been let down when allowing someone else to help me in the past.

I’ve even told tech support for my website how to fix issues because I worked it out before they’d come up with an answer on more than one occasion.

It has always just been easier to do things myself.

I’m also not an easy sell. I’m only interested in the things I’m focused on, not the bright shiny object that someone else thinks I need to buy.

Anyway, it got me thinking…I still feel the same way about shopping and shop assistants because, quite frankly, I want to feel that way about it, but it has made me look at other areas of my life where I’m holding myself back and I need to allow myself to receive more…

The areas where I do want to see change…

Where am I holding onto old beliefs and ideals when I should be letting them go because, quite frankly, they’re holding me back…

Where am I allowing fear to hold me back for fear of change or fear of letting go?

What am I afraid of?

A big one for me right now is a change of career. I’m focused on my new career in the personal development world and I’m passionate about helping others who want to change their lives. I LOVE the fact we all have the power if we change our mindset and our perspective on things and a BIG part of that is taking a leap of faith and allowing ourselves to receive what we’re asking for instead of resisting it all the time…

To see that life doesn’t happen to us, it happens for us and to reframe things when they appear to go wrong…

…like some of my previous income areas area starting to fall away…

It’s happening because they’re no longer in alignment with my new career path but it would be so easy to freak out because of FEAR!

This is the time when you need to hang on for the ride and KNOW that something better is unfolding…

That it’s all falling into place and that this is just a part of the process…

This is where most people freak out and start panicking…they start to worry and they start to hold on for dear life to what they currently know, retreating back into their comfort zone instead of being open to receiving the new opportunities that are lining up for them and trusting that everything will be ok.

What you think and feel you create. Think about where your focus has been because it’s all part of the divine plan to bring you exactly what you want.

Ask yourself, what areas of your life are you holding onto for fear of the unknown…because that’s the barrier that’s standing between where you are now and what you truly want.
