Feeling Stuck? Stop Fitting In and Embrace Your Creativity

Feeling Stuck? Stop Trying to Fit in and Embrace Your Creativity

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…

Creativity is the way forward…

Releasing creativity is the answer to so many issues…

I had someone respond to me once that I was being ridiculous…

That creativity was a nice hobby to have but you can’t make a living from it…

BOOM! Shoot that belief down in flames…

By looking at it that way, that person is looking at creativity like the old style arts and crafts in school…

It’s not…

Creativity awakens the brain to new ideas…

Creativity comes in so many forms…

It’s in the words that you say…

It’s in the way you move and how you do things…

It’s in the problems that you solve…

It’s cemented deep into your core values and what you’re drawn to…

If everyone was taught to embrace their creativity the world would be a happier, productive and more abundant place for all…

To allow people to express their views…

And to stop correcting people when someone else thinks they’ve made a mistake or has done something differently…

It used to drive me insane when people would comment on a painting I was creating before I’d finished it…

Or while learning a new song…

It made me shut down because they weren’t even giving me a chance to get started…

They were infecting my work with their opinions and beliefs…

Creativity is not all about drawing, painting or performance…

It’s in everything you do…

Even your interactions with others…

How you breathe…

Your connection to your body and your SOUL…

Creativity is shut down when you live your life according to what other people believe or how you’ve been led to believe you should live your life…

It’s taken me years to get to the point of feeling comfortable with the way I live my life…

As an artist…

There’s so much talk that to be successful, you have to get up early, even if you’re tired, working out and getting stuck into the day…

My best hours are after 4pm…

I prefer to spend my day waking up when my body chooses to wake up, spending time on myself and working at a time that suits my body clock…

Which is late afternoon and into the evening…

I’ve always been that way, and while I did change my body clock when I was working at the gym and the hours changed to 6am starts…

After a lot of swearing, 18 months later I was finally in a new routine…

But as soon as that part of my life finished, it took all of 24 hours to fall back into my old routine of waking up around 8am and being productive at night…

My favourite time to work is at night…

Many artists come alive at night…

3am is the artists’ hour…

We need to allow people to be who they truly are…

Not everyone’s an earlybird and not everyone’s a night owl, but there’s room in this world for everyone and there’s no reason to say one way will create success more than another way…

What works for one doesn’t necessarily work for another…

I don’t believe anyone is lazy…

I believe lazy people have been emotionally shut down by people or a system who are restricting them from being their true selves…

They’ve been taught to believe there’s no future in following their heart and being who they truly are…

I’ve always followed my heart and it’s always served me well…

But even then, I’ve still had the belief that I was being ‘naughty’…

That I should be getting a haircut and getting a real job…

Even though I just couldn’t bring myself to do it…

And every time I did do that through fear, I ended up going back to being the creative artist…

Drawn back to doing the things I love to do…

Creativity takes so many different forms…

It really comes down to what you’re drawn to…

I met a woman at an event a while back who’s husband had told her she wasn’t to ride her motorbike any more because it wasn’t safe…

She wasn’t doing what made her feel alive because he had different beliefs and fear that he projected onto her…

She said it made her feel like shit…

And that pretty much sums up what happens when people are held back from following their heart’s desires by another person’s beliefs…

Beliefs that are anchored in fear…

Society believes there’s no future in following the arts because it’s not considered a safe financial choice…

Banks don’t consider a creative career a real job…

It’s much ‘safer’ to be employed by the man than it is to follow your heart and be self employed…

But the value following your soul and allowing your creativity to flow brings to your life far outweighs the safety net of what society dictates as being ‘normal’…

Yes, it requires taking FULL responsibility for the outcome of your life, but it’s very rewarding…

That means following your heart into whatever career you are called to do instead of what society tells you you have to do…

It’s about living your life according to you own body clock and doing what works for you…

Living your life on your terms and being comfortable with it, especially when it’s outside the ‘norm’…

It doesn’t mean dropping everything right this second and throwing caution to the wind, but there will be one thing you can start to do differently to get the ball rolling in the right direction…

The very thing that sits at the core of your heart that you dream of doing every day is where your creativity lies…

Everything about your life is a work of art…

What’s the one thing you can do right now to release your creativity and create a life that makes you feel alive?
