Do You Really SEE Those Around You?

I saw the movie, ‘Wonder’ yesterday…

It’s the story of a young boy who was born with a deformity to his face and after many years of surgery and home schooling, it’s decided that it’s time for him to go to school and out into the world.

He struggles with the fact his face is different, but it also shows the struggles of the other people it affects…

His family and the other kids who haven’t dealt with something like that before…

And that deep down inside, EVERYONE just wants to be SEEN…

Not for what’s on the outside…

But deep down into their soul…

I believe there’s a character that everyone can relate to in this movie…

Not just the lead character but other characters in the story…

For me, it was the daughter…

Not because she was unintentionally pushed aside when her brother was born, but because she felt unseen by her mother…

Now, I am fully grateful that my Mum does see me…

She’s genuinely interested in who I am, what I’m doing and supports me 110%…

For me it was not being seen by my Dad…

He was a great provider and in that respect, he was a great Dad,

But all I ever wanted was for him to SEE me…

To take an interest in what I was doing and to spend some time with me…

And the emotional toll it takes when you don’t feel seen by the very people you put so much faith in…

Or anyone, really…

Which got me thinking about what anyone really wants at Christmas time…

Even for kids, is it really about the presents?

Does giving presents REALLY show how much someone loves someone else?

I believe that gifts that aren’t given from the heart with a lot of thought about the person they’re being given to are superficial…

I’m not against giving gifts…I think that’s a wonderful thing to do…

But when I receive a gift that shows that someone hasn’t really taken the time to get to know who I am, it shows they’re not really seeing me…

It really has no meaning…

They’re not giving with the recipient in mind…

They’re giving with themselves in mind…

They’re giving from their place in the world…

They might think that they’re giving a gift from the heart but…

They haven’t taken the time to know what I really like and what I don’t like…

They haven’t taken the time to ask themselves if the gift will enrich my life or not…

They haven’t really taken the time to get to know me even though they may think they do…

I receive a lot of gifts with mango in them…

Whether they’re food, gift baskets or even stuff to apply to your body…

When I was 15, I had an allergic reaction to mango…twice…

The last thing I want to see or touch is a mango…

I may never have another reaction ever again, but having my face blow up like a puffer fish is something I’m not willing to
take a chance on…

But every year…

There’s food…

There’s gift baskets…

There’s stuff to put on your body…

Which I don’t like, either…

Body soap, body wash, body butter…

It all makes my skin crawl…

But these are things people think I will like because they’re what they like…

I live a healthy lifestyle so it makes sense to presume that I’d like them, too…

But I don’t…

So when someone gives me a gift like this…

It means they don’t truly know me and they’re not really seeing me…

They’re seeing me through their own belief system…

I love to receive gifts that have meaning for me that will truly touch the bottom of my heart…

Any other gift is…well…a gift for the sake of giving…

Which really has no meaning.

Do you REALLY see those around you?

Do you FEEL like anyone REALLY sees you?

People might hide but what they really want is to be seen…

They want their souls to be seen…

Without having to ask anyone to see them…

They want someone to just take the time to see them…

To take a genuine interest in them…

To show an interest in what they’re doing and to really listen to them..

To take time out from their own space to truly focus on them…

With no expectation in return.

That’s all anyone really wants…

So, if you REALLY want to give a gift from your heart to the heart of someone else…

See them…

REALLY see them…

Not for who you THINK they are but for who they TRULY are…

And that gift will mean more to them than you can imagine…

It could be as simple as the gift of your time…

And the gift of touch…

Spending time doing something that they really want to do…

Not something you THINK they’d like to do or that you’ll benefit from in some way…

Or giving them a gift that will truly mean something to them…

There’s a line at the end of the movie that says…

‘Everyone deserves a standing ovation at least once in their life…’

Take the time to REALLY see those people you care about…

It will mean more than the world to them.

I’m starting up an online mastermind for those who live their life according to their soul who see the world differently…

They know they were born for more but they’re not surrounded by their true soul tribe…

I want to help people to push through the fears that are holding them back and to offer a place of support so that you can rise to your full potential surrounded by like minded people who see you and get where you’re coming from…

It’s called Soul Connection Crew…and if that’s talking to you, I’d love to hear from you…
